Christopher J. Thornton’s practice includes over thirty-five years of extensive transactional experience in residential and commercial real estate, bank lending representation and asset disposition, as well as consultation to lenders and other law firms on complex title issues and other real estate matters. His clients have included other law firms, relocation companies, developers, builders, REO asset managers, mortgage brokers and lenders, construction lenders, real estate investors, real estate brokers and agents, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Resolution Trust Corporation, the Small Business Administration and their contractors, Fannie Mae and other government and secondary market entities, as well as many lenders and individual buyers and sellers of real estate requiring Consumer Finance Protection Bureau and American Land Title Association Best Practice certification and compliance. He has also served as an expert witness in litigation involving complex foreclosure and title issues.
Mr. Thornton has served pro bono as guardian ad litem for abused and neglected children and handled agency adoptions pro bono on a case by case basis. He served as prosecutor and municipal judge for the City of Germantown, Tennessee from 1991 through 1996. He has taught real estate seminars for Tennessee Continuing Legal Education as well as broker classes for the Memphis Area Association of Realtors.
He is a fifth generation Memphian and lives in East Memphis with his wife Tracy. They are members of Christ Covenant Reformed Church, and have two grown sons and (currently) two grandsons.
